![]() Keith Sonnier (born 1941 in Louisiana) is a performance, video and light artist who has presented numerous ephemeral or permanent works throughout Europe and North America. His architectural neon installations in public spaces from airports to churches have earned him worldwide acclaim. In 1992 he created a one-kilometre-long "path of light" called Lichtweg for the Munich airport, which links the various terminals and orients passengers while playing with their perceptions. In 2002 he created his second permanent installation in Munich, the Verbindung RotBlauGelb, a three-coloured, 143-metre-long neon corridor in an underground passageway linking two buildings of the headquarters of Munich Re. The functionality of these creations, an essential component of Sonnier's work, represents a fusion between art and architecture. In his New York studio the artist contemplates the twilight skies of Manhattan, then describes his Lichtweg at the Munich airport as the film crew follows him through the luminous tunnel. Biography Director Marco Wilms received an M.A. in filmmaking from the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Potsdam.
