 A look at the methods of today's photographers who are using the human body to represent the social and human preoccupations of Western civilization. Over the past few decades, the nude body has become a rich field of exploration for many artists, some of whom have even used their own bodies as a canvas to convey their ideas and emotions. Examining the work of these photographers, the film reveals the changes in the way the body is now represented. Certain artists are pushing their perceptions to the limit by producing a completely artificial image of the body, while others are depicting its most natural aspects. Are they thumbing their noses at advertising, or in league with it? These photographers, in any case, are capturing the body in all in its states: strength, vigour, sickness and death. Biography A member of the Quebec bar, Renée Claude Riendeau has worked in television production since 1996. In 2003, she co-founded Ciné Qua Non Films International and Claire Obscura with Bernar Hébert. Bernar Hébert is well known for his films on dance and music, which have won awards at various international festivals. Together, the two have made several documentaries dealing with subjects linked in varying degrees to culture and the arts.
