![]() How the combined intuitions of an artist and a mathematician finally broke the infinity barrier. In 1956, Dutch artist Maurits C. Escher (1898-1972) challenged the laws of perspective in his Print Gallery, but found himself trapped behind an insuperable barrier... This unfinished masterpiece quickly became one of the most inpenetrable enigmas of modern art-for both artists and scientists. Half a century later, mathematician Hendrik Lenstra surprised the world by creating a bridge between the artist's intuition and his own, thereby shattering the infinity barrier. This film depicts this spectacular meeting between art and science, and the role of intuition in solving the mystery. Biography Born in Quebec City, Jean Bergeron studied the pure sciences before becoming an author and filmmaker. He is still fascinated by science and wrote a popular book on cloning in 2000 called Heirs of Frankenstein. He has also written several children's novels. For a number of years now, he has focused on auteur documentaries. Filmography Achever l'inachevable est la première réalisation documentaire de Jean Bergeron. |
