ACHEVER L'INACHEVABLE

How the combined intuitions of an artist and a mathematician finally broke the infinity barrier. In 1956, Dutch artist Maurits C. Escher (1898-1972) challenged the laws of perspective in his Print Gallery, but found himself trapped behind an insuperable barrier... This unfinished masterpiece quickly became one of the most inpenetrable enigmas of modern art-for both artists and scientists. Half a century later, mathematician Hendrik Lenstra surprised the world by creating a bridge between the artist's intuition and his own, thereby shattering the infinity barrier. This film depicts this spectacular meeting between art and science, and the role of intuition in solving the mystery.
