A full reading of Écorces (2011) by its author, French philosopher and art historian Georges Didi-Huberman. In the manner of a photo story, the film illustrates thought in action on the subject of the image. In his text Didi-Huberman questions, among other issues, the status of his own photographic documentation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. He also refers to the controversy surrounding the publication of his book Images malgré tout (2004), and the opposition from Claude Lanzmann. We are riveted by these spoken reflections, by the fascinating photographic images that turn into movement.
A painter and video artist, Mario Côté lives and works in Montreal. Since 1994, he has taught at the École des arts visuels et médiatiques of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). An active member of the Centre de recherche en arts médiatiques Hexagram/UQAM, he has initiated several collaborations in the field of experimental video, in addition to directing two research groups.
