Synopsis

North American Premiere - In attendance of Laurent Métivier, Head of the Audiovisual Department of the Opéra de Paris and Dimitri Krassoulia, producer for the films Phelléas and 3e scène for the Opéra de Paris.

Beginning his opera with a prelude for strings of unprecedented economy of means, in 1853, Verdi affirmed his intention of defying conventions and norms. This is not the least radical aspect of his Traviata, which implacably strips bare the violence of a society that promotes worldly pleasures only to sacrifice an innocent woman on the altar of bourgeois morality. François Roussillon is producer, director and writer.
In 1988 he founded the independent company François Roussillon et Associés which produces audiovisual programs dedicated to classical music, opera and ballet.
With FRA Productions, he has produced and filmed opera and ballet performances at the greatest French and international venues. He was responsible for video recordings at the Opéra national de Paris, Opéra Comique, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Théâtre du Châtelet, Opéra de Lyon, Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, Glyndebourne, Royal Opera House, Madrid Teatro Real, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Dutch National Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Theater an der Wien....
This exceptional catalogue of cultural programs is for the most part distributed by FRA Productions.
In 2009 he founded FRA Musica to publish the operatic repertoire on DVD.
Then in 2012, FRA Cinéma is launched as exclusive cinema distributor for the Opéra National de Paris, broadcast live or delayed, worldwide. FRA Cinéma catalogue also includes operas filmed at other opera houses in Europe.
In 2015 the filming of the opéra « Les Fêtes Vénitiennes » marks the 100th audio-visual capture directed by François Roussillon.
He is also the author of several documentaries: ‘The odyssey of Offenbach’, ‘Rêves d'Etoiles’ (Dancer’s Dream) devoted to the great ballets of Rudolf Nureyev, ‘Découvrir un opéra : The Fly’, ‘La Sicile de Roberto Alagna’… and a dance film with the pupils of the Paris Opera Ballet school “Les Enfants de Scaramouche”.
