Martha Cooper is an American photographer and photojournalist who gained recognition following her co-production of the globally influential book Subway Art. The book’s success did not come immediately following its release in the 1980s, however, but 20 years later; with the progress of the underground movement that Cooper was a part of, so her incredible efforts to raise awareness of graffiti and street art came to be appreciated. Martha: A Picture Story reveals the vitality, energy, joy and passion of an artist who has never stopped taking risks, never stopped running after trains on the heels of graffiti artists unafraid to break the law. Looking beyond her past contributions, this documentary portrays a living artist who continues to carve out new opportunities for creative expression in public spaces.

Selina Miles

Director Selina Miles works extensively in digital online production and the global street art movement. Her style of energetic and vivid direction has brought her acclaim in that space - her short ‘hyper-lapse’ video Limitless became a globally recognised rendition of graffiti art, garnering over 12 million views on YouTube. She extended her examination of the street artist at work with her online series The Wanderers, in 2017. Her current production Martha: A Picture Story has developed out of her unique access to this global art movement, merging immersive storytelling with bold direction to create a distinctive feature documentary.
