Moundform is an experimental film which gently swallows the viewer into a body of unrest. Navigating feelings of inescapable saturation, longing and disconnect, it undergoes a series of vital transformations. Using photo-animation and 2D digital animation, coupled with an immersive sound design composed of distorted animal vocalizations and natural sounds, Moundform shifts into scapes of fluid darkness, glimmering pores and visceral chasms as it oscillates between blissful comfort and the fear of being engulfed, smothered and lost. Blurring the line between the singularity of the interior body and the sensation of vast, endless space, Moundform speaks to the unforgiving necessity of change and the resilience of life.

Catherine Slilaty

Catherine Slilaty is a multidisciplinary visual artist who uses animation, painting and drawing to explore transformation and in-between-ness in relation to identity. Her childhood fascination with monsters and creatures has developed into a deep love for these beings, as well as an interest in deconstructing the fear of the unknown, ambiguous and Other. By playing with corporeality, the limits of the self, and multiplicity, she seeks to explore the possibilities which arise from an attunement to the slightest shifts and interconnections between ourselves, our environment, and the natural world. Her work has been shown in Montreal, Toronto, New York, and Buenos Ares. Slilaty holds a BFA in Film Animation and is currently pursuing her MFA at Concordia University (Montreal).
