Synopsis

Conversation lead by Nicole Gingras, artist in attendance (Montreal only)

This video tells a simple story of love and loss. Niagara was originally called Ongniaahra, a Mohawk word, from the Haudenosaunee Nations.

Shelley Niro, member of the Six Nations Reserve, Turtle Clan, Bay of Quinte Mohawk, is a multidisciplinary artist who defies stereotypical depictions of the First Nations. She is a prolific director counting 15 short and feature-length films and videos. Ranging from 2003 to 2017, the following 5 short videos highlight her discrete, yet direct way of addressing crucial questions relating to identity, memory, land and mourning in a lucid and dreamlike fashion.
