Synopsis

Quebec Premiere

In Petrila, a small mining town in Transylvania, Romania, a former miner turned militant uses art and the absurd to prevent local authorities from demolishing the historic buildings of one of the oldest coal mines, closed in 2015. Wishing to preserve the history and identity of his hometown, he strives to find new ways to save his community from an irreversible collapse.

Directors

Andrei Dascalescu

Born in 1984, Andrei Dascalescu studied Sound and Editing at the Film University, and at the same time worked as a freelance editor and sound engineer for BBC World Service Romania. He worked on many films, including one of Francis Ford Coppola. He moved on to make his own films with the awarded short feature Fly. Planeta Petrila is his second feature-length documentary.
