Canadian Premiere - In attendance of the Co-Directors Marsha Gordon and Louis Cherry, March 20 - In attendance of the Collectors Steven Burke and Randy Campbell, March 29.

Rendered Small explores the more than 1,200 American folk-art buildings on display in Steve Burke and Randy Campbell’s private collection in Hillsborough, North Carolina. These little churches, movie theatres, houses, schools, factories, bowling alleys, and many others were made in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In the film, the two enthralled owners discuss their fascination with these unique objects.


Marsha Gordon

Marsha Gordon is Professor of Film Studies at North Carolina State University where she teaches classes on classical Hollywood and nonfiction film. She is the author of Film is Like a Battleground: Sam Fuller’s War Movies (Oxford University Press, 2017) and Hollywood Ambitions: Celebrity in the Movie Age (Wesleyan University Press, 2008), and co-editor of Learning With the Lights Off: Educational Film in the United States (Oxford University Press, 2012).

Louis Cherry

Louis Cherry is an artist and architect ( He studied English literature (Duke University); photography and printmaking (BFA, East Carolina University); and architecture (M Arch, North Carolina State University). Louis was inducted into the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 2008 and has practiced Architecture in Raleigh, NC since 1983. He has a private architecture and building practice focused on modern residential and community buildings. Louis has recently returned to his background in fine arts to begin producing new works of photography and video, including experiments with merging digital and analog forms. Rendered Small, which he co-directed, co-produced, and played music for, is his first documentary film.
