Synopsis

Twenty-three-year-old cellist Sevak, a fan of combat sports, is preparing for a prestigious cello competition. His instrument calls for complete dedication and unwavering discipline. The film follows him through this difficult and solitary process, from the boxing ring to the rehearsal hall and his everyday life, which is focused on his instrument and on music. This physically, intellectually and emotionally demanding experience calls on him to push his limits, as a man and as an artist. Portrait of an impassioned musician and a career fraught with challenges.

Comes Chahbazian

Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1972, the self-taught filmmaker Comes Chahbazian lives and works in Brussels. In 2000, he directed two short films in New York: Untitled and Y.U.L., both presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2002. In 2006, he made a documentary entitled Ici-Bas (Down Here) in Erevan, Armenia, which was selected by numerous festivals between 2010 and 2012, including the Cinéma du réel in Paris, and Visions du Réel in Nyon. Rhythm & Intervals was shot in Berlin in 2014.
