Rebecca is an independent filmmaker who draws on a long career in storytelling to create compelling factual and factual-based films. Her first documentary feature Crossing Rachmaninoff demonstrated her ability to create compelling, emotionally engaging arts-based stories that transcend their subject matter. It premiered at the New Zealand International Film Festival and went on to screen at festivals around the world. In this new film Rebecca has shifted her focus from individual endeavour (“an intimate portrait of a young musician scaling the heights”) to a collective creative endeavour. In a fusion of music and movement, The Heart Dances charts the challenges of collaboration, of personal achievement and cross-cultural understanding to provide a unique insight into the creative process. Rebecca’s first short film eden (2009), which she directed, produced and wrote, was selected for the New Zealand International Film Festival and screened in festivals in Africa and Australia. She has also written drama for television. In addition to her film work Rebecca is a journalist and an internationally published author of non-fiction work. Her background includes roles with international television producer NHNZ and extensive experience in publishing.
