33rd annual Quebec architects tournament a success

Montreal, August 29, 2017 — On August 17, the 33rd annual Quebec Architects Golf Tournament (TGAQ) was held. The event was presented by Kollectif, in partnership with Cosentino and Walltite Eco/BASF, in collaboration with ARD and Jura, with the support of Hydrotech, Lumigroup, Manugypse, Mohawk Industries, Schluter, Soprema and Webster, and with the contribution of Beaudoin Hurens, Canam, Daubois, Baillargeon Doors, Roxul and TD Insurance. The event raised $30,000 for Emergency Architects Canada and the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), which will be distributed equally between the two organizations. Martin Houle, Architect MRAIC, Founder and Managing Director of Kollectif, and Managing Director of TGAQ, is very pleased with the success the tournament sees year after year:

"Including this year's contribution, we will have donated more than $150,000 directly to Emergency and Development Architects, Maison de l'architecture du Québec, the Redford Gardens International Garden Festival, UQAM's design exhibition centre, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, three schools of architecture—at Université de Montréal, McGill University and Université Laval—and, this year, FIFA," he says. "It's the only initiative of its kind in Canada, and the tournament's organizing committee is very proud of what it has accomplished!"

FIFA will put its $15,000 directly toward organizing the 36th annual festival, which is slated for March 8 to 18, 2018. "This generous donation will allow us to show films about architecture to general audiences, students and architects alike," says Dr. Nicolas Chevrier, co-chair of the festival's board of directors. "We'll also be able to show films about architecture throughout the year at events all over Quebec." These free public screenings help develop a greater appreciation of architecture among the general public. "Year in and year out, films focusing on architecture are presented to packed houses," Dr. Chevrier adds. "This is additional proof of people's ever-growing interest in architecture."

The annual fundraiser gala benefiting the festival will take place at the prestigious Canadian Centre for Architecture on October 18. Internationally renowned Montreal architect Phyllis Lambert will be honoured at the event.
